The History Graduate Program at UCI provides students with a vibrant academic environment characterized by its emphasis on interdisciplinary exchange between faculty and students. This collaboration focuses on key research areas including: Transnational, colonial, and imperial studies; Global History; The historical study of science, technology, medicine, and the environment; Gender and sexuality studies; Religious history. Through graduate seminars, students from diverse geographical and historical specialties engage in cross-disciplinary learning. The program blends in-depth theoretical exploration with meticulous analysis of primary sources such as documents, texts, interviews, and artifacts. Students can earn an M.A. in History, typically through either an oral examination or thesis within one year.
