The examination of institutions, work, and economic systems has been a fundamental aspect of sociological research for decades. At UCI, scholars investigating organizations, labor, and economic systems concentrate on transformation patterns, disparities, societal frameworks, and policy formation. Researchers in this specialization explore these topics through diverse theoretical lenses and methodological approaches. Given this variety, the work of these scholars intersects with several other departmental focus areas, including social connections, political sociology/collective action, gender and kinship systems, racial and cultural studies, and worldwide transformation and disparity. Sociology professors also engage actively with the Center for Organizational Research (COR), which unites UCI academics and students examining institutional structures across campus through collaborative studies, academic discussions, and advanced coursework.
