The undergraduate Physics and Applied Physics programs aim to cultivate skilled problem solvers with comprehensive knowledge of physical concepts. These adaptable curricula equip students for diverse career paths including industrial research, software development, teaching, legal professions, or business, while also laying the foundation for advanced studies in astronomy, biomedical physics, engineering, or physics.
The Physics Honors Program offers exceptional students in Physics or Applied Physics the chance to engage in specialized research within the Department's focus areas. Candidates typically apply by the sixth week of spring quarter during their junior year, requiring a minimum 3.4 overall GPA and 3.5 GPA in physics courses. (Special circumstances may warrant exceptions to these requirements.) The Department evaluates applicants based on demonstrated research potential and academic enthusiasm.
