The Neuroscience Graduate Group stands among the top training programs in the U.S., providing an extensive curriculum and exceptional research opportunities for students pursuing M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, while also collaborating with Physician and Veterinary Scientist Training Programs. With more than 80 faculty members from 20 diverse departments—spanning the School of Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, and multiple colleges—the program fosters interdisciplinary learning. This broad academic network allows students to explore specialized fields such as molecular, cellular, developmental, systems, behavioral, computational, cognitive, and neurological neuroscience. Upon enrollment, each student is paired with a graduate advisor to navigate program requirements and selects a major professor to oversee dissertation research. Typically, Ph.D. candidates fulfill coursework and teaching obligations within the first two years, pass preliminary and qualifying exams, and then focus on their dissertation under their major professor's guidance.
