To be considered for admission to the Microbiology M.S. program, applicants must fulfill these requirements: they need to secure placement in a specific laboratory and demonstrate self-funding capability. After selecting a primary advisor for direct admission, the advisor must submit a letter endorsing the candidate to the MGG admissions committee. Master's students join their assigned labs directly and finance their own education, as the Microbiology Graduate Group, its faculty, and affiliates do not offer financial assistance during the program. Applicants bear full responsibility for all expenses related to the Microbiology Graduate Program.
The Biotechnology specialization offers a comprehensive interdisciplinary focus, incorporating bioethics, business principles, legal considerations in biotechnology, plus a 3-6 month internship with a biotech firm or research facility at another institution or national lab. Program Coordinator Dr. Kjelstrom supports students in finding internships, crafting compelling application materials, and cultivating professional competencies for corporate settings.
