The two-year MFA in Design program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, combining research and practice with a focus on social and environmental stewardship. Graduate students benefit from working alongside distinguished faculty at a leading public research university, with most receiving full funding via Teaching Assistant (TA) and Graduate Student Researcher (GSR) roles. The program connects students with experts across the Design Department and wider university, spanning specialties from design theory and visual communication to wearables and interactive media. Cross-disciplinary partnerships extend to arts, humanities, social sciences, and professional fields like medicine and law.
With a Product Design concentration, the MFA curriculum blends coursework, labs, and industry partnerships with entrepreneurial development. Through ecological and human-centered methodologies, students tackle pressing global challenges. The program covers sustainable design, industrial prototyping, wearable tech, and digital fabrication, supported by cutting-edge facilities including 3D printers, laser cutters, and a fully equipped woodshop for bringing ambitious concepts to fruition at any scale.
