The two-year MFA in Design program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, combining research and practice with a focus on social and environmental impact. Graduate students benefit from working alongside distinguished faculty at a leading public research university, with most receiving full funding via Teaching Assistant (TA) and Graduate Student Researcher (GSR) roles. The Design Department's faculty specialize in diverse areas such as design theory, fashion, interactive media, textiles, visual communication, and beyond. Students are empowered to forge cross-disciplinary partnerships, engaging with experts from arts and humanities to STEM fields, as well as professional schools like medicine and law.
The Interaction Design concentration within the MFA program equips students to merge digital and physical media through academic inquiry, technical experimentation, and creative skill development. This track promotes collaboration across disciplines—from arts and computer science to engineering and social sciences—while critically examining technology's creative potential and cultural implications. Students develop interactive systems, immersive installations, and socially engaged projects, exploring technology's evolving role in society through both practical and theoretical lenses.
