The UC Davis Philosophy Department offers a close-knit, collaborative graduate program with a strong analytical focus. The program provides both M.A. and Ph.D. options. Prospective doctoral candidates should apply directly to the Ph.D. program, regardless of whether they hold a master's degree in philosophy. Those pursuing a Ph.D. can obtain their M.A. en route to completing doctoral requirements. The M.A. program caters to students not planning to continue to a Ph.D. or those who would benefit from starting with a master's degree. M.A. students retain the option to subsequently apply for the Ph.D. program if they choose.
