The Integrative Pathobiology Graduate Program provides opportunities to pursue M.S. and Ph.D. degrees focused on investigating disease mechanisms. This program examines the origins and characteristics of diseases in both animals and humans, concentrating on how illnesses develop at systemic, cellular, and molecular levels. With a diverse scientific foundation, the program tailors studies to individual interests through customizable curricula. While drawing essential coursework from fields like anatomy, bacteriology, and virology, the program maintains adaptable course structures.
Our planet hosts countless microorganisms. A crucial frontier in contemporary biomedical research involves understanding the intricate relationships between hosts and microbes that impact health across species and ecosystems. Rapid technological progress now allows unprecedented interdisciplinary exploration of these dynamic interactions. This emerging field presents a unique educational opportunity for UC Davis to cultivate future scientific innovators. The DE-HMI initiative will harness campus expertise to train leaders capable of driving technological advancements in both academic and industrial settings. By preparing students for interdisciplinary research, the program equips them to address complex challenges throughout their careers. The DE-HMI will educate students from varied backgrounds in multidisciplinary approaches to science. Currently, no UC Davis graduate program offers the specialized training needed to thoroughly investigate host-microbe interactions - a gap the DE-HMI program fills.
