The program focuses on combining fundamental and practical approaches to entomology for addressing challenges in biology, agriculture, and environmental science. Students can concentrate on various specialties including pest management strategies, agricultural entomology, pollinator science, chemical insect communication, insect sensory systems, population dynamics, insect biology, pesticide science, sustainable pest control, ecological studies, forensic insect analysis, disease-carrying insects, and insect classification. UC Davis offers exceptional research facilities, including the Richard M. Bohart Museum of Entomology with its global insect specimens and the Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Center dedicated to bee studies. Advanced laboratories feature cutting-edge technology, along with climate-controlled growth facilities, experimental fields, and plant growth structures for student research.
The UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology maintains its position among the nation's leading entomology programs. Graduate students can pursue both master's and doctoral degrees, benefiting from approximately 40 faculty experts and comprehensive research resources spanning laboratory and field studies.
Consideration for program admission requires a bachelor’s degree. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
Most successful applicants have a TOEFL score of 100 or higher, above the university minimum of 80.
