The Graduate Composition and Theory Program at UC Davis offers a dynamic and innovative environment for aspiring music creators. This competitive program explores essential aspects of contemporary composition, helping emerging artists refine their skills. Annually, student works are performed by the Empyrean Ensemble, the Music Department's resident new music group. Visiting artists frequently provide opportunities for readings, performances, and recordings of student compositions. Our composers have worked with renowned groups including the Lyris and Calder Quartets, Alarm Will Sound, and Wet Ink Ensemble, while also attending prestigious programs like June in Buffalo, Aspen Music Festival, and the Wellesley Composers Conference.
