The ecological management and restoration degree is a multidisciplinary field integrating ecology, applied plant biology, and social sciences. This program teaches students about the interplay between natural/managed ecosystems and their environmental, societal, and transformational contexts. Graduates will be equipped to address the complex task of maintaining and rehabilitating ecological systems to sustainably meet human demands while preserving biodiversity and ecosystem services. The curriculum provides fundamental training in biological and physical sciences before progressing to specialized coursework in ecological and botanical studies. You'll explore connections between plant propagation, physiology, soil science, genetics, and wildlife ecology with the conservation and stewardship of ecosystems. Practical skills are developed through labs, fieldwork, and internship opportunities.
This program opens doors to diverse career paths in ecological rehabilitation, ecosystem stewardship, rangeland conservation, environmental advising, and roles with governmental, corporate, or nonprofit organizations focused on restoration and natural resource conservation. Additional opportunities exist in Cooperative Extension, education, and environmental communications. The degree also provides strong preparation for graduate studies in ecology, agroecology, environmental science, geography, or invasive species management.
