Large-scale computing services focus on handling, sharing, and processing enormous amounts of data. For four decades, Berkeley has been at the forefront of acknowledging and progressing data's pivotal role in computing. Berkeley's faculty and students have consistently shaped and reshaped the expansive domain of data management, merging profound academic influence with the creation of multi-billion dollar sectors like relational databases, RAID storage, Internet search scalability, and big data analysis. Berkeley also pioneered many widely adopted open-source systems such as INGRES, Postgres, BerkeleyDB, and Apache Spark. Currently, our research keeps expanding the horizons of data-driven computing, applying core data management principles to diverse emerging applications.
