The Goldman School of Public Policy (GSPP) provides three graduate-level public policy programs: the Master of Public Policy (MPP), Master of Public Affairs (MPA), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The MPP is a two-year, full-time program featuring core coursework, a mandatory summer internship following the first year, a second-year policy analysis project, and elective courses from campus-wide offerings. This curriculum focuses on hands-on policy development and execution, equipping students with competencies in:
Clarifying complex policy matters for decision-makers across government, business, and nonprofit organizations
Offering comprehensive frameworks for evaluating policy choices
Exploring methods for generating policy solutions and analyzing their societal impacts
Designing effective implementation strategies for adopted public policies
With intentionally limited enrollment, the school fosters collaborative learning through team-based projects, peer interaction, and close faculty mentorship. Students tackle actual policy challenges for real-world clients, working individually or in small groups with direct faculty guidance.
The following minimum requirements apply to all graduate programs and will be verified by the Graduate Division:
Applicants Who Already Hold a Graduate Degree
The Graduate Council views academic degrees not as vocational training certificates, but as evidence of broad training in research methods, independent study, and articulation of learning. Therefore, applicants who already have academic graduate degrees should be able to pursue new subject matter at an advanced level without the need to enroll in a related or similar graduate program.
