Numerous challenges in health, medicine, and biology are tackled through data collection and analysis. The Biostatistics Group focuses on creating and utilizing methods to interpret such data effectively. This program provides education in statistical and biostatistical theory, computational methods for analysis, and practical applications in biomedical research. Instruction comes primarily from faculty in the Division of Biostatistics (School of Public Health) and the Department of Statistics (College of Letters & Science), offering diverse perspectives on data analysis.
Founded in 1955, the Graduate Group in Biostatistics delivers training in statistical theory and computational techniques, along with hands-on experience in biological and medical research applications. The available degree programs (detailed below) cater to students with either robust mathematical/statistical skills focused on biomedicine or biology degrees emphasizing math and statistics. (The MA degree follows Plan I or II, while the PhD dissertation adheres to Plan B.)
