The Mechanical Engineering Department provides three advanced degree options: the Master of Engineering (M.Eng), Master of Science (M.S.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). These programs may be pursued alongside an M.S. degree or independently. Students earn their degrees by completing rigorous curricula focused on applying scientific principles to solve complex engineering challenges. Programs typically integrate advanced coursework in mathematics, chemistry, physics, and life sciences while employing systematic engineering methodologies. The Ph.D. in Engineering can be combined with an M.S. (through the M.S./Ph.D. track) or undertaken separately. Admission requires an accredited engineering bachelor's degree or equivalent qualifications as determined by the department.
The minimum graduate admissions requirements are:
three letters of recommendation
statement of purpose
personal statement
writing sample (ca. 10-15pp. double-spaced)
The GRE is not required for Fall 2025 Admission Cycle.
