Environmental health focuses on safeguarding human well-being by addressing factors in both natural and man-made surroundings. Sometimes called environmental public health or public health protection, this field differs from environmental conservation, which primarily aims to preserve ecosystems. Environmental health prioritizes human welfare through managing our living spaces.
The Graduate Group in Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) offers interdisciplinary MS and PhD programs for research-oriented students. While degrees come from UC Berkeley's Graduate Division, students also connect with the School of Public Health's Environmental Health Division.
