The Applied Science and Technology graduate program is overseen by the College of Engineering, catering to students pursuing interdisciplinary research. Faculty participants come from various Engineering departments as well as Physics, Chemistry, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Statistics, and Mathematics. Research areas span nanostructures, thin-film science, MEMS, short-wavelength radiation, X-ray imaging, plasma physics, laser applications, ultrafast phenomena, particle accelerators, nonlinear dynamics, computational methods, and fluid mechanics, among others.
Students craft personalized study plans with advisor guidance, selecting from campus-wide technical courses to support interdisciplinary research. PhD candidates can opt for Designated Emphasis specializations like Nanoscale Science and Engineering (DE NSE), Energy Science and Technology (DE EST), or Computational Science and Engineering (DE CSE).
Students with a B.A. or B.S. in engineering, physics, mathematics, chemistry, or other related subjects are eligible for admission. Applicants with a Master’s degree are also encouraged to apply.
