Legal Studies is an interdisciplinary liberal arts program exploring the concepts, principles, practices, and systems surrounding law and legal frameworks. The curriculum investigates the reciprocal relationship between law and societal influences, including political, economic, and cultural factors. This major encourages critical analysis of legal theories, historical developments, and law's role within cultural contexts.
Faculty and students in Legal Studies address crucial social policy issues through the lens of jurisprudential philosophy and justice theories. Key areas of focus encompass personal freedoms, privacy rights, social equity, fair resource allocation, citizen-state relations, democratic engagement, community ethics, and the protection of human rights.
The program's curriculum approaches legal systems through both humanistic and empirical methodologies. Courses are structured around interdisciplinary themes that break down traditional academic divisions to foster cooperative learning and research.
