The Law and Society program in the College of the Liberal Arts offers an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree combining broad liberal arts training with specialized legal studies. This curriculum examines how legal systems interact with social, cultural, economic, and political factors throughout history and in modern contexts. Through socio-legal theory, students gain insight into why legal studies programs have grown increasingly significant. The structured curriculum includes six core courses plus five electives that students can customize based on their academic objectives and personal interests. Participants analyze connections between legal systems, human behavior, and societal structures while developing critical skills in analysis, reasoning, and problem-solving through rigorous academic study.

Qualification Requirements
The majority of Penn State’s applications come from traditional, first-year students. The following types of students are considered first-year applicants (or freshman applicants, as some refer to them): Current high school student in his or her senior year; Student who has earned a high school diploma or a GED and has no post-secondary coursework; Student who has attempted 17 or fewer credits (semester hours) of college coursework at a regionally accredited college/university before attending Penn State; Current high school student who may have enrolled in another institution(s) before graduating from high school (dual enrollment); Student who may have attended Penn State on a nondegree basis.
