The Interdisciplinary Studies Field (ISF) is a research-focused liberal arts program that stands as the highest-ranked personalized major in U.S. higher education. This unique program enables students to craft customized, cross-disciplinary academic paths combining social sciences, humanities, and professional school coursework with ISF's core requirements. The culminating experience involves producing an original 40-page senior thesis, representing rigorous scholarly work that bridges multiple disciplines.
ISF has established several interdisciplinary research areas that have produced outstanding academic work and drawn students from across the university. While students can develop their own research focuses with faculty guidance, these predefined fields serve as valuable examples and resources. The research categories listed on ISF's website help students shape their academic interests and design personalized liberal arts curricula.
