Integrative Biology (IB) majors acquire comprehensive expertise across biological sciences while building a strong grounding in organismal, population, and community biology. This program especially benefits students aiming for graduate studies in these fields. It also offers exceptional preparation for those pursuing healthcare careers (such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physical therapy, nursing, pharmacy, optometry) or biology-related professions (including psychology, sociobiology, forestry, wildlife conservation, environmental management, resource management, law).
IB majors select between two specializations: Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology (Emphasis 1) or Integrative Human Biology (Emphasis 2). All IB students complete identical lower division coursework, regardless of specialization. Upper division requirements vary slightly between emphases, with all students taking lecture and laboratory/field courses from IB's three core areas: Evolution and Genetics; Ecology, Behavior, and Biodiversity; and Structure, Function, and Human Health.
