Mechanical engineering stands as one of the most comprehensive engineering fields. Students earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering are well-prepared to excel in design, development, manufacturing, and testing across diverse industries. Our alumni have also thrived in advanced studies at UB and other top-tier engineering graduate programs nationwide.
Because of the significant overlap in required courses, students can fulfill the requirements for both Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering majors within 4.5 years. Those pursuing this double major must complete all Aerospace Engineering required courses, substituting the SEAS technical elective with a professional practice track course (excluding MAE 434). Additionally, students must take four extra courses to meet the remaining Mechanical Engineering degree requirements:
Have earned the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma.  If you have already completed secondary school, you need to submit both academic transcripts and proof of graduation with your application documents. 
Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.000, both overall and at the University at Buffalo
