Students pursuing history degrees originate from varied backgrounds yet unite in their fascination with the world. Faculty members guide them in honing creative thought processes and refining analytical abilities. Graduates with history degrees are highly regarded in employment sectors, pursuing diverse professional trajectories. Their adaptability and capacity to discern patterns—whether specializing in U.S., Latin American, European, Asian, African, or transnational historical studies—makes them particularly valuable to employers. The History Major curriculum combines theoretical instruction with practical application. Foundational knowledge is established through large lecture courses, while intimate seminars allow for deeper exploration and knowledge expansion. Advanced research seminars and the Honors Seminar provide platforms for students to develop specialized skills while contributing original insights to historical scholarship.
Have earned the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma.  If you have already completed secondary school, you need to submit both academic transcripts and proof of graduation with your application documents. 
Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.000, both overall and at the University at Buffalo
