The doctoral program in New Testament and Early Christian Studies typically spans five years of full-time enrollment. Candidates must fulfill all 33 credit hours of required coursework within their initial two years. The third academic year focuses on comprehensive examinations, usually administered in the fall term, after which students submit their dissertation proposals. The final two years are primarily devoted to dissertation composition. Alongside research development, our program emphasizes pedagogical training through teaching opportunities. For the first three funded years, doctoral candidates work as teaching or research assistants supporting faculty members. During years four and five, while finishing their dissertations, students lead undergraduate theology courses as primary instructors.
