The University of Arizona's two-year Master of Science in Urban Planning equips you for a rewarding career designing sustainable futures for communities worldwide. CAPLA leads innovative urban planning education and research, with diverse students driving our acclaimed initiatives.
Our adaptable, interdisciplinary program lets students specialize in two of four concentration areas while building core planning knowledge. MS candidates select nine primary and six secondary concentration credits from focus areas, enabling deeper faculty collaboration and specialized study. Most full-time students graduate within two years.
The Urban Transportation Planning concentration develops skills for creating sustainable mobility systems. We examine transportation's intersections with safety, climate resilience, equity, health, and community needs. Focusing on multi-modal solutions and inclusive infrastructure, students learn comprehensive approaches to transportation challenges. The program offers practical experience through data collection, analysis, and planning projects.
Students gain expertise across urban scales and government levels while studying global best practices. The curriculum critically examines emerging technologies like autonomous vehicles and their impacts on urban development and planning frameworks.
