The Master of Science in Biostatistics program is administered by the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Its primary goal is to equip students with the skills needed to serve as professional biostatisticians across diverse healthcare and research environments. Unlike the MPH concentration in Biostatistics, which offers a wider public health perspective, the MS program emphasizes probability theory, statistical methods, and research applications.
Each MS candidate collaborates with their Faculty Advisor to design a personalized study plan, which must then receive approval from both the Graduate Committee and Biostatistics Section Chair. Typically spanning two years, the program's first year concentrates on foundational courses and passing the qualifying examination, while the second year involves advanced coursework and thesis research development.
