The University of Arizona FFSoM provides a Master of Music program with specializations in Composition, Conducting, Ethnomusicology, Music Education, Music Theory, Musicology, and various Performance areas including Instrumental, Harpsichord, Organ, Piano (with options in Accompanying, Performance, and Dance Accompanying), and Voice. Admitted students must adhere to the degree specifications listed in the current FFSoM Graduate Handbook for their enrollment semester. Returning graduate students who haven't registered for two or more consecutive semesters must follow the Handbook requirements active during their readmission semester, not those from their initial admission period.

General Requirements and Procedures
Academic achievements are one indicator of personal commitment to the chosen discipline and to the highest possible standards of scholarly and creative performance. A minimum grade point average of 3.00 is required by the Graduate College of the UA for regular admission to all graduate programs. Applicants for master's degrees must have a bachelor's degree in music or its equivalent as determined by the FFSoM Director of Graduate Studies and faculty.
Official transcripts from all institutions that you have attended. In keeping with Graduate College policy, international students from countries that do not post the degree on the transcript must submit a copy of their degree certificate/diploma. All international transcripts and degree certificates/diplomas should be submitted in the original language with official English translations. In order to expedite the review of your application, you may submit unofficial transcripts if official transcripts are not immediately available, but you will need to submit official transcripts before you can be admitted to the university.

Those applying for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) position must also submit a teaching video. A group teaching situation is preferred. The teaching episode should be a minimum of 20 minutes in length but not to exceed 40 minutes.
International students whose native language is not English must meet or exceed minimum university standards for English Proficiency to be admitted to FFSoM graduate programs, unless they have completed a bachelors or graduate degree at an approved institution in the U.S., or in a country where English is the official language. Acceptable English Proficiency credentials include TOEFL iBT (79 minimum), IELTS (minimum composite score of 7, with no subject area below 6), and CEPT Full Academic (minimum 110). Duolingo scores are not accepted by the UA. Photocopies of your TOEFL scores must be uploaded to Acceptd at the time of application (TOEFL exam must have been taken within the past two years).
Regardless of prior academic work and degrees, international students intending to hold a graduate assistantship involving instruction must submit English Speaking subtest scores. The minimum English Speaking subtest scores necessary to hold an instructional position include the following: TOEFL iBT (24 minimum), IELTS (7.5 minimum), and CEPT Full Academic (Speaking Section 44 minimum). There are no exceptions for English proficiency requirements. The FFSoM will not request exemptions from standard Graduate College and U.S. Immigration procedures and policies.
