This program serves two purposes: helping students strengthen their credentials for advanced degree programs (like philosophy Ph.D.s or law school J.D.s) while also catering to those who simply want two more years of philosophical education without pursuing further academic work.
Each year, a select group of students who've earned their Bachelor's degree can join the M.A. program. Note that being accepted into or finishing the M.A. program doesn't guarantee entry into the Ph.D. program later.
The Philosophy M.A. stands separately from the University of Arizona's Philosophy Ph.D. program. MA graduates receive no preferential treatment when applying to the doctoral program compared to other candidates.
Our two-year Philosophy M.A. accepts a small number of students who've completed their Bachelor's degree before starting graduate studies. We additionally provide an accelerated M.A. option for current philosophy undergraduates.
