Our Master's programs in French and Francophone Studies consist of 30 credit hours, with the exception of the Secondary Teaching Certificate track, which involves 48 credits including a teaching internship. Typically, students complete the program over four semesters, taking 5 courses (15 credits) each academic year. The Director of Graduate Studies works closely with students to design personalized study plans aligned with their academic goals. Every student also receives guidance from a faculty advisor. Regardless of specialization, at least seven courses (excluding French 593 and thesis credits) must be completed within the French department. For courses taught in English, students are encouraged to conduct readings and written assignments in French when feasible. These programs equip graduates for diverse career paths, including teaching French as a second language or advancing to PhD programs in French and Francophone studies.
