The Graduate Interdisciplinary Program (GIDP) in Statistics provides multidisciplinary academic paths culminating in Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, available through either the standard Statistics track or the Statistical Informatics specialization. Additionally, it offers a 12-unit Graduate Certificate option and a Ph.D. minor for doctoral candidates enrolled in non-Statistics programs at the University of Arizona. Our objective is to cultivate future data science professionals equipped to tackle contemporary challenges in interdisciplinary data collection, processing, and analysis.
Certificate candidates frequently come from non-traditional academic backgrounds, typically with significant professional experience following their undergraduate studies. Applicants have included professionals from technology sectors (particularly Raytheon Missile Systems), research personnel handling data-driven scientific work seeking advanced statistical training, and mathematics/statistics educators pursuing career transitions. Given this wide-ranging professional diversity, admission evaluations extend beyond academic records to assess relevant work experience. The Certificate program offers both online and in-person completion options.
