Sustainably restoring and carefully overseeing natural ecosystems to maintain their resource-providing capabilities presents a significant challenge. The Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources focusing on Ecology, Management, and Restoration of Rangelands examines varied rangeland ecosystems—from deserts and grasslands to woodlands and meadows—with a focus on conservation and rehabilitation strategies. Learners establish a robust understanding of biological, physical, ecological, and botanical sciences. The curriculum enhances conventional classroom instruction through hands-on fieldwork, internships, laboratory sessions, and participation in research and restoration initiatives. Graduates emerge prepared for careers involving soil, flora, and fauna assessments; creating resource management plans with organizations or private companies; rehabilitating damaged ecosystems; overseeing conservation areas or ranches; protecting threatened species; and formulating sustainable rangeland utilization strategies.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Understand fundamental ecological concepts, Gain foundational knowledge of ecological theories (including energy transfer, nutrient cycles, species interactions), recognize contemporary ecological issues confronting resource managers, and apply ecological principles to devise comprehensive solutions for natural resource challenges. Natural resource governance, Explain how societal, political, and economic factors influence natural resource decisions, and articulate the inherent compromises between different management goals.
Roles of conservation agencies, Recognize principal governmental agencies overseeing natural resources, the historical contexts behind their establishment, and their core responsibilities.
Develop statistical proficiency, Perform, analyze, and communicate basic statistical evaluations of collected data, create effective research methodologies, and demonstrate competence in designing and executing field monitoring programs.
Students must have high school equivalent to USA and entry requirements vary from country to country. International applicants whose primary language is not English, or who attended school in a non-English speaking country, regardless of citizenship, must prove English proficiency. English proficiency may be proven by one or more of the following:
