Exploring microscopic organisms can have far-reaching impacts, even sparking breakthroughs that save lives. Venture into the unseen world. Microbiology examines microbes and their influence on human, animal, and plant wellbeing. This Bachelor of Science program provides foundational knowledge in contemporary biology, focusing on microbe-environment interactions. The curriculum covers food safety and public health, plant disease and microbiology, environmental microbial studies, microbial genomics and biotech, along with medical microbiology. Learners investigate bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa while exploring bacteriology, parasitology, fungal studies, immunology, and microbial genetics. The program hones specialized skills for careers ranging from biotech to healthcare.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Microorganism classification, Graduates will distinguish structural and functional traits of microbial groups: viruses, prokaryotes, eukaryotes, and their subgroups.
Evolutionary relationships, Graduates will comprehend molecular phylogenetic systems and apply evolutionary principles to classify unknown microbes.
Cellular processes, Graduates will recognize core physiological mechanisms including metabolic pathways, energy conversion, and biosynthesis.
Genetic control, Graduates will describe fundamental gene expression and regulation processes, contrasting prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems.
