Explore one of humanity's most fundamental tools for connection: language. This vital medium enables communication, preserves history, and helps us interpret our surroundings. Linguistics represents the systematic examination of language, focusing on how humans develop linguistic skills, language architecture, and language's role in shaping human interaction and perception. In the Bachelor of Arts program with an Academic and Professional focus, students learn from distinguished faculty (including the University of Arizona's renowned Noam Chomsky, a pioneering figure in linguistics) featuring specialists in language preservation and revitalization, particularly for Indigenous American languages. The curriculum covers linguistic structures, connections between language and thought, computer-assisted language study, literary analysis, societal influences, and the psychology of language.
