Explore design studies centered on works that 'happen in context', encompassing human-scale environments, location-specific events, interior spaces, exhibitions, urban settings, and beyond. DAP students will cultivate fundamental conceptual and technical abilities to create artifacts and experiences across various scales and media formats.
Hands-on coursework will enhance your problem-solving capabilities, technological innovation skills, and creative visualization approaches to tackle challenges (such as climate crisis, equity concerns, identity representation, educational needs, water scarcity, regional wildfires, and data interpretation). Historical perspectives, theoretical foundations, and academic studies will establish cultural contexts to deepen research and practical implementation.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Design Investigation: Learners will acquire knowledge of design heritage, utilize design methodologies and principles, and establish cyclical design approaches for addressing challenges while creating digital visual communications.
Methodology: Learners will combine diverse media/materials, technical procedures, prototyping techniques, and inventive approaches to address challenges related to digital interfaces, user interactions, printed materials, and narrative projects.
Cultural Framework: Learners will assimilate comprehensive understanding of design evolution, current methodologies, and societal concerns.
Complex Problem Solving: Learners will hone skills to organize multifaceted tasks and integrate complicated systems and variables.
Community Involvement: Learners will apply teamwork abilities and display cultural sensitivity to meaningfully connect projects with societal needs.
Career Preparation: Learners will assemble their design portfolio and exhibit professional communication competencies.
Students must have high school equivalent to USA and entry requirements vary from country to country. International applicants whose primary language is not English, or who attended school in a non-English speaking country, regardless of citizenship, must prove English proficiency. English proficiency may be proven by one or more of the following:
