Oceanography is a multidisciplinary field of study. Our faculty brings together expertise across physical, biological, geological, chemical, and fisheries oceanography. Prospective graduate students are highly recommended to reach out to potential faculty advisors before submitting applications, as this facilitates a smoother review process. The program welcomes applicants with robust quantitative abilities and backgrounds in natural sciences, or occasionally mathematics or engineering. Prior coursework in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics (including calculus), and geology is beneficial. Admissions decisions consider applicants' qualifications, academic background, funding availability, and program alignment with student interests. Faculty evaluate admission requests year-round. Many students receive financial support through research assistantships tied to their degree projects, with these stipends awarded through competitive processes.
