The Department of Natural Resources and Environment provides two master's degree programs tailored for aspiring resource management professionals, future doctoral candidates, and environmentally conscious individuals seeking deeper knowledge. These degree programs feature coursework and curricula developed collaboratively with Alaska's leading resource management organizations. Partner agencies such as the Alaska DNR, Alaska Fish and Game, USDA Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Forest Service, BLM, NRCS, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service actively support the programs through guest lectures, internships, and student research collaborations.
Given the field's expansive nature, both degrees allow for personalization based on student interests and faculty advisory input. Past student research and thesis work has spanned diverse areas including forestry operations, land development strategies, soil conservation techniques, resource policy analysis, rangeland stewardship, recreational area administration, plant cultivation, crop science, livestock studies, climate impact research, and geographic information systems applications.
