The graduate program in marine biology emphasizes the study of marine life, including its biological processes, ecological relationships, physiological adaptations, and species diversity. Learners can choose between Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degrees in this field. Participants benefit from outstanding research facilities, both in labs and natural environments. Faculty members carry out studies across multiple Alaskan locations such as Fairbanks, Homer's Kasitsna Bay Laboratory, Juneau's Lena Point facility, Seward Marine Center, and the Alaska SeaLife Center. Field research opportunities extend to diverse Alaskan marine environments like the Beaufort and Chukchi seas, Aleutian Islands, and various coastal regions. The program also provides access to specialized research vessels, including the coastal ship Nanuq and the ice-ready Sikuliaq, which is part of the University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System fleet.
