The biological design PhD program aims to cultivate innovative scientists by educating students in fundamental biomedical and biotechnological fields while equipping them for collaborative work in future interdisciplinary research teams.
The program prioritizes application-driven research that addresses pressing societal issues. It offers a closely guided, customized learning experience with extensive engagement opportunities within the dynamic local research network.
The curriculum stands out through four defining elements: tailored study plans enabling exploration of preferred disciplinary and cross-disciplinary fields, support for selecting dissertation topics with practical applications that tackle major challenges and offer multidisciplinary exposure, participation in proseminars fostering wide-ranging research discussions on biological design issues, and three introductory 10-week lab rotations in any ASU facility primarily focused on biological investigations during the first academic year.
