A nurse practitioner is an experienced healthcare professional utilizing advanced clinical expertise to perform thorough health evaluations, determine differential diagnoses, and administer both medication-based and non-medication treatments for various health conditions. These practitioners serve in multiple roles including direct caregivers, case coordinators, research specialists, advisory consultants, and instructional educators.
Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (AGACNP) specialize in treating adults with sudden, severe illnesses across various settings such as hospitals, affiliated clinics, long-term care facilities, and private offices. Their expertise centers on managing patients with unstable physiological conditions, those reliant on medical technology, individuals at high risk for complications, and cases demanding constant observation and medical attention. AGACNPs conduct patient histories, administer physical exams, request diagnostic testing, and implement treatment plans involving medications and alternative therapies. Completing the AGACNP program qualifies graduates to pursue national board certification.
