Students develop expertise in Earth system science by examining our planet as a interconnected whole, utilizing advanced concepts from diverse fields such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, hydrology, meteorology, ecology, economics, sociology, and geographic information systems. This discipline offers comprehensive insights into humanity's relationship with the environment across different time periods, fostering a unified perspective of our world and guiding sustainable solutions. Graduates acquire both qualitative and quantitative competencies valuable for careers in environmental risk evaluation, policy development, sustainability planning, and geospatial intelligence.
The Atmospheric and Earth Science Department at UAH is committed to delivering exceptional academic programs while conducting world-class research in specialized areas including remote sensing, atmospheric chemistry, air quality studies, radiation processes, microwave measurements, extreme weather phenomena, computational modeling, and climate change analysis.
Students who have a background in Earth, Environmental or Atmospheric Sciences usually apply. Students who have a background in GIS/Remote Sensing, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology will find the program suitable.
In order to be considered for admission to degree programs with no additional English language training required, applicants must meet the following minimums on the TOEFL or IELTS.
TOEFL (iBT): all sub-scores greater than or equal to 18 OR
IELTS: all sub-scores greater than or equal to 6.0
