The English graduate program equips both new graduates and professionals with skills for careers in research, writing, editing, and education at secondary and post-secondary levels. Our curriculum offers varied literature and writing courses that provide cultural enrichment, research training, and practical writing/editing skills applicable across industries.
Earning an English MA qualifies graduates to teach at college level, with many alumni continuing to top PhD programs nationwide including Vanderbilt, UC Riverside, Indiana, Washington, UMass, and Purdue.
The Technical Writing Certificate program opens doors to writing and editing roles in Huntsville's tech/defense sectors and other industries, with 80% of participants securing employment during or right after their studies.

If you do not meet our requirements, you may still be granted conditional admission. This means that you can take classes, but that you must have the approval and signature of the Director of English Graduate Studies or the Chair of the English Department. You will also be required to earn at least a ''B'' in each of your courses. After having done satisfactory work for 12 hours (four courses) your admission status automatically changes to unconditional. From that point, you are required to maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.0.
TOEFL iBT - All sub-scores must be greater or equal 18. TOEFL Essentials - All subscores must be greater or equal to 8. IELTS - All sub-scores must be greater or equal to 6.0.
