UAH's undergraduate structural engineering program equips students with comprehensive knowledge across various structural engineering disciplines. The curriculum includes classes in structural engineering principles, structural analysis, foundation design, and reinforced concrete. Students can also pursue electives in concrete mix design, construction materials, and experimental mechanics. Faculty members specialize in diverse fields including space structures, timber construction, building materials, and experimental mechanics. Undergraduate research opportunities in these specialties are regularly available. Collaborations with the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department and Applied Optics Research Center create additional research and career prospects for Civil and Environmental Engineering students at UAH. Graduates with a Structural Engineering degree can pursue careers designing and analyzing space structures, highway bridges, and municipal buildings.
