This course examines U.S. government structures, processes, and key players such as Congress, the presidency, federal systems, political parties, and lobbying organizations. The Political Science Department provides a broad liberal arts education, allowing students to pursue either a major or minor in Political Science for their bachelor's degree. The program emphasizes foundational knowledge rather than narrow specialization.
Political Science as a field teaches students about governance, political systems, policy development, and state functions, with specialized areas including political philosophy, global affairs, comparative government studies, legal systems, research methodologies, policy analysis, and U.S. politics. Through Political Science coursework, students develop both a comprehensive grasp of governing mechanisms, policy formation, and international affairs, as well as crucial analytical abilities for career advancement - including critical thinking, research competence, and clear communication skills.
