Political science examines the key questions and challenges shaping civic affairs. Through both humanistic and scientific lenses, it analyzes how societies balance competing demands of justice, authority, freedom, and governance.
Our program emphasizes political analysis while developing students' abilities in written communication, critical analysis, and quantitative methods. High-achieving undergraduates can complete accelerated coursework in their final year, produce a thesis with faculty guidance, and earn both bachelor's and master's degrees in just four years.
Application details and deadlines are available on the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences BA/MA and BA/MS Program Application site. Prerequisites include four political science courses (one at CAS PO 505 level or above) completed before applying, with minimum GPAs of 3.0 overall and 3.5 in the major. Required materials include two academic recommendations (at least one from a Political Science professor), an approved Plan of Study form from the department advisor, and a research statement outlining the applicant's academic goals and proposed thesis topic submitted with the application.
