The Spanish major consists of 36 credit hours covering language, cultural studies, literature, and practical Spanish applications. Students are highly encouraged to participate in study abroad programs and must fulfill a Spanish-language internship, which can be completed either in the U.S. or internationally. Through our collaboration with Language that Works, study and internship options are offered in Costa Rica. Spanish majors must also select a minor in another discipline, though they have the option to pursue a double major or dual degree program instead.
The Spanish minor involves 24 credit hours dedicated to mastering four core language competencies: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
The Department of World Languages and Cultures provides a B.A. in Foreign Languages. Students can specialize in French, German, Russian, or Spanish, with additional options in Foreign Language and International Trade or teacher certification. While Arabic and Japanese aren't available as majors or minors, they can fulfill the B.A. language requirement or serve as elective courses. Certificate programs are offered in our four primary languages, with potential availability in Arabic and Japanese based on current course schedules.
