For those seeking advanced mastery in both theoretical and practical mathematics while connecting these skills to other disciplines, this doctoral program could be your ideal path. UAB equips students for professional opportunities across business, industry, government sectors, and beyond.
Prior to admission, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in real analysis and applied linear algebra. Successful applicants then complete 54 credit hours of graduate-level coursework (600-700 level), with at least 18 credits in applied mathematics and 12 credits in a complementary field like computer science or physics. The program culminates with a comprehensive examination, dissertation defense, and additional requirements. Notably, we provide hands-on professional experience and substantial external funding to support your academic journey. These resources facilitate research initiatives, doctoral studies, and valuable collaborations - not only with our faculty but also with mathematicians worldwide. You'll gain opportunities to participate in academic conferences and build connections with scholars at institutions across the globe.
