The Applied Mathematics PhD is a collaborative initiative between The University of Alabama at Birmingham and The University of Alabama at Huntsville.
Our department provides graduate programs culminating in both Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy qualifications. Course offerings span multiple mathematical disciplines including algebraic studies, analytical methods, topological concepts, differential equations, engineering mathematics, financial mathematics, statistics education, statistical mathematics, computational mathematics, fluid mechanics, systems control, and optimization techniques.
We provide comprehensive academic pathways for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral candidates. Research and study opportunities exist across theoretical mathematics, practical applications, computational methods, optimization processes, statistical probability, and mathematics pedagogy.

Qualification Requirements
Each international applicant must hold the equivalent of a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited institution to be eligible for graduate admission. While individual departments may have more stringent requirements, bachelor degrees from Bologna Accord certified institutions are considered to meet this criterion. We do also consider Indian three-year degrees to be equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree.
