The department provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Science degrees in Biological Sciences and Marine Science, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Biological Sciences. Starting Fall 2019, students can pursue a coursework-only Master of Arts in Biological Sciences. Our graduate curriculum delivers comprehensive education in Biological Sciences, allowing specialization in either Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) or Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics (EES). MCB research areas encompass disease models, evolutionary and developmental genetics, microbiology and immunology, genomics, and protein biochemistry. EES research focuses on population, community, and ecosystem ecology, microbial ecology, evolutionary biology, conservation genetics, marine biology, animal behavior and physiology, and systematics, with particular attention to aquatic environments.
