The Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) is a 36-credit program, one of roughly 63 ALA-accredited programs across the United States and Canada, and Alabama's sole ALA-accredited program. This degree trains students for careers in diverse library environments including public, school (PK-12), academic, and special libraries. Additionally, the MLIS prepares graduates for roles in archives, information agencies, and innovative or research-focused settings that utilize information technologies and AI solutions.

Qualification Requirements
Each international applicant must hold the equivalent of a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited institution to be eligible for graduate admission. While individual departments may have more stringent requirements, bachelor degrees from Bologna Accord certified institutions are considered to meet this criterion. We do also consider Indian three-year degrees to be equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree.
